Community members are fighting to win a Community Benefits Agreement at the Kingsbridge Armory. Below are just a few activists who are demanding living wage jobs, healthcare, education, recreational facilties and the protection of local businesses.

Creating a New Development Model Across the Country

Desiree Pilgrim-Hunter is a Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition board member and a founding member of KARA. Desiree says the community needs living wage jobs, local hiring, recreational areas, and to be able to be proud of the Kingsbridge Armory’s development.

Community Benefits Agreements Ensure Living Wage Jobs

Kwasi Akyeampong is an active member of KARA. He says that if the Related Companies signed a Community Benefits Agreement, it would a set an important precedent throughout the community, and across the country.

We Can't Have Part-Time Jobs and No Benefits

The Related Companies plan to fill the Armory with more than 1,000 part-time jobs and no benefits. Mary Corsey of the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition says that one of the most important things the community needs is fair wages.

We Need a First-Class Education System

Adan Stevens-Diaz is an active member of KARA. He says that instead of a shopping mall, the Bronx needs a better education system, including more schools. In the proposed Community Benefits Agreement, KARA is advocating that four new schools be built on the Armory ground.

We're Not Looking to Stay in Poverty

Rev. Brenda Berry is a Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition Board Member and Pastor of University Heights Presbyterian Church. She hopes that redevelopment of the Kingsbridge Armory will help bring her community out of poverty, instead of keeping them in poverty.

Not Just Paid Well, But Paid Enough

Fernando Carlo is a founding member of Sisters and Brothers United. Fernando wants his community to be guaranteed living wage jobs and adequate healthcare. He also wants local businesses to be protected.
