What is KARA?

The Kingsbridge Armory Redevelopment Alliance is a nineteen member coalition of community groups, churches and unions that seek high-road, equitable development for the Kingsbridge Armory. The alliance wants the redevelopment plan to meet the community’s needs for living wage union jobs, community space, recreation facilities and schools. KARA has been endorsed by thirteen local, city, state and federal officials.

KARA is asking The Related Companies, the developer of the Armory, to negotiate a community benefits agreement and guarantee union construction and union neutrality for retail and building service workers.

KARA Member Organizations include:
Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition, Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, The New York City Building Trades, Bronx Board of Business Agents, Service Employees International Union Local 32 BJ, United Federation of Teachers, St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, Our Lady of Angels Church, St. James Church; Light of Consolation Church, Fordham Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fordham Manor Church, Cosmopolitan Church, Fordham United Methodist Church, Kingsbridge Heights Community Center, Kingsbridge Heights Neighborhood Improvement Association, NFAMAS, Mosholu Preservation Corporation, Fordham Bedford Housing Corporation, Wildcards Sports Program, Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation
